“I read a news story where a tourist from Bergen had been deprived food by a seagull. The tourist questioned whether it was the seagulls or the people who controlled Tromsø.
That question really got me involved in the debate. The following summer, I observed how the birds took up residence in the city, how birds make homes just outside ours. In the winter, they were elsewhere, and the homes were left empty after them. It was important for me to say that they should also have the right to live here. The posters were a message, a reminder that we all live here, that we all share the same home, and that their houses are waiting when they return from migration. We humans used to be more nomadic, like the birds; we travelled from place to place, we had many homes - depending on the season. That's what it's all about, that we're allowed to have many homes, or places we're connected to.”
