Irene Margrethe Kaltenborn's cinematic world revolves around the poetic and the political, raising philosophical and existential questions that she illuminates. She is interested in how the eye and gaze of the camera can create alternative ways of seeing the world, and how we can interact with the non-humans around us through a deeper understanding and empathy. Her cinematic works is based on thorough research and a deep engagement with history, phenomena or contemporary discourses, often exploring the relationship between humans and non-human animals. Through a personal, painterly and poetic imagery she straddles the line between documentary and fiction.
